Van Rasoi by Sylviq takes Kerala's century-old plantation heritage to the global spice market

A fourth-generation plantation family brings together traditional agricultural expertise, science-led quality assurance and a global vision for safer, more transparent food.

Kerala, India. Van Rasoi by Sylviq today announced its entry into India's packaged spices market, introducing a curated collection of eight essential spices across 13 whole and powdered formats, with ambitions to bring the quality and heritage of Indian spices to consumers worldwide.

Rooted in nearly 100 years of plantation heritage and four generations of family involvement in agriculture, Van Rasoi represents the next chapter of a family business historically established on the production side of the agricultural value chain. The brand builds on this foundation to bring carefully sourced, processed and independently tested products directly to households and international markets.

Inspired by Kerala's Western Ghats, one of India's most celebrated agricultural landscapes, Van Rasoi combines generations of plantation knowledge with contemporary processing, scientific quality assurance and transparent sourcing. Its founding philosophy is straightforward: consumers deserve to know what goes into their food, and quality, safety and purity should never be compromised.

Science-led quality. A commitment to purity.

At the heart of Van Rasoi is an ambition to raise expectations around quality and transparency in the Indian spice industry. The company is developing a science-led quality assurance framework that goes beyond traditional visual and sensory assessments. Its approach incorporates careful raw-material selection, controlled processing, systematic quality checks and independent laboratory testing.

Depending on the product, testing parameters include:

  • Pesticide residues: screening against applicable Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs), including relevant European Union standards.
  • Heavy metals: assessment for contaminants including lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury.
  • Mycotoxins: testing for relevant contaminants, including aflatoxins.
  • Microbiological safety: assessment for total plate count, yeast and mould, E. coli and Salmonella.
  • Product integrity: evaluation of moisture, volatile oil content, colour, aroma and other product-specific quality parameters.

The objective is to establish a documented, independently verifiable quality framework that supports product safety, purity and consistency. Van Rasoi aims to make this commitment increasingly transparent through batch-level quality documentation, traceable sourcing and access to relevant laboratory reports.

Four generations of heritage. A new chapter for the world.

For nearly a century, the Thumpasserry family has been connected to plantation agriculture, building its experience across four generations. This legacy reflects decades of familiarity with agricultural production, crop quality, sourcing and the people and communities behind India's agricultural sector.

Historically focused on the production side of the value chain, the family is now bringing its agricultural knowledge and products closer to consumers through a contemporary consumer brand. The company also aims to create stronger and more transparent relationships with farmers and agricultural producers, ensuring that the communities behind its products remain an important part of the value chain.

“We believe the future of food must place greater emphasis on safety, scientific quality assurance and transparency. We are starting in Kerala, but our vision is global. We want to build an Indian food brand that is recognised internationally for its integrity, quality and the people and heritage behind it.”
J. Thumpasserry, Principal, Van Rasoi by Sylviq

Taking Indian quality to international markets

Following its domestic launch, the company plans to expand into Singapore, Japan and Malaysia by Q1 2027, with the Middle East targeted for H2 2027.

Alongside its direct-to-consumer ambitions, Van Rasoi is building commercial relationships with hospitality groups, hotel chains, restaurants, catering companies, chefs, food-service distributors and international retail partners, including bulk and institutional supply, private-label collaborations and customised product offerings.
